My friend Jon Brady tagged me so I figured I should do this.

Here are the rules:

  •  When tagged place the name of the person that tagged you and URL on your blog.
  • Write 7 random facts about yourself.
  • Name 7 bloggers that you are tagging.
My random facts…
  1. My favorite food is grilled lemon pepper salmon.
  2. I love Apples. (We are a MAC family. Once you go mac you will never go back.)
  3. I choked on a peanut when I was 2 years old. (I about had to have a tracheotomy.  I did get pneumonia for a year from it.)
  4. I have been out of the country. (Jamaica and Aruba. I loved it!)
  5. I won 50 scoops of  ice cream by winning a Dance Off at one of my sister High Point University Basketball games.  (I was young. The cheerleaders liked my moves I guess.)
  6. I now watch Friends more than any other t.v. show. (I married in to it. I love the show now!)
  7. I am a little scared of ladders. I just don’t trust them. (My dad fell of a ladder and broke his back.)
Tag, you’re it!

Things I love about South Carolina

I blogged about what I miss about NC and so people may get the idea that I don’t like SC.  If you think that you are wrong because I really do enjoy living in SC. Here are the things I love about South Carolina

  1.  The people – Hannah and I have made a lot of friends down here.  They are some of the coolest people.  I really enjoy being around them.
  2.  Church –  To be over 100 years old, Welcome Wesleyan Church is going in the right direction.  I really have enjoyed seeing this church refocus on what God has called us all to do.  Which is love God, love others and share Christ.  The church is making an impact on the kingdom of God in a positive way and I love being apart of it.
  3. Landscape – SC is beautiful state.  South Carolina has mountains and beaches, so you have to love that.  The lakes around here are really clean.  I went scuba diving last year and I could see down like 20 feet.  That is really good for lakes.  They also have beautiful rivers around where we live.  I went Kayaking down one of them this summer and it was so beautiful.  The waterfalls around here are very pretty too.  Hannah and I haven’t visited all of them yet but we plan on going to more this year.  I love the area where we live and I think a lot of other people do to because people are always moving into the area.
  4. Gas prices/tax – I know that is some weird things to love about a state but when I go home I see the difference.  SC is one of the cheapest states (if not the cheapest) on gas.  I also fuel up in Gaffney before I cross over into North Carolina.  Tax down here is cheaper that North Carolina and that is always a plus.
I know I only listed 4 things that I love about South Carolina but we have only been living here for 9 months so we are still learning things we love about it.

What I miss about North Carolina

Let me start off by saying I really like South Carolina but there just isn’t any place like home and there never will be.  I love North Carolina and I wanted to put together a list of why I miss North Carolina.

  1.  Family – It is hard being away and I have an awesome family back in North Carolina.  My family lives really close together and I use to ride over to grandpa and grandma’s house to eat (cornbread and milk! – I love it!) I really miss my family back home but I get to see them from time to time and that is good.  I also get to talk to them a lot.  We get to go home this weekend to see my family! It is my nephew’s birthday party and he turns 1 so it is going to be fun.
  2. Hannah’s family – I miss them really bad too.  They are really interesting, funny, and so focused on God. The family also sings a lot and it is some of the best harmony I have ever heard and I love listening and singing along with them.  We are going to get to see them this weekend too.
  3. Friends – I went and spoke in NC 2 weeks ago and I got to hang with some of my best friends.  We use to hang out all the time.  We played basketball at the church like every saturday and also after church.  (This is why I was in shape back then.)  I miss all my friend back in NC.  They are some of the greatest people.
  4. NC Food – SC doesn’t have a lot of the food that I love. I will list a few:  Rockola – (They have the best cheese fries and ranch dressing! Hannah and I always get it when we go home.) Sir Pizza – This is the best pizza on the earth.  Very fattening because of the grease but makes you want to smack your mama it is so good.  BBQ – Hannah and I have been to few BBQ places around here but none of them come close to NC BBQ.  Back home I lived 10 mins. down the road from Lexington, which in my opinion and several others is the BBQ capital of the world.  Family meals – my grandma can cook!!!!!! (Mom is still learning but I still love her.  She can fix the best grilled cheese sandwiches though.)  Hannah’s mom and grandma can cook!!!!!  I miss all those meals.  I love me some food and NC has some good food that is for sure.
  5. North Carolina Basketball – This state is by far the capital of college basketball.  We have some of the best basketball teams in the Nation.  I love me some Tar Heel basketball. (They are doing really good in the tournament! Go HEELS!)  Down here in SC, basketball isn’t as big of a sport but they are crazy about Clemson Football.  I miss getting everyone together to watch the basketball games.  March Madness is sad down here because I don’t have many people to watch the games with me.
Well that is my list so far.  I may blog about some more reasons why I miss NC in the future.

Please note:  I do like SC and we are fitting in here pretty well.  I love the people down here.

Mind Games and Satan

In youth group we sometimes play mind games like Snaps, Green glass door, etc.  They are really fun for me at least because I know what is going on.  For my teens however they sometimes get so mad because they can’t figure it out.  Some of them get really mad because a few have figured it out and they still can’t get it.  On that note though sometimes I have mind games going on in my head.  Satan tries so hard to bring me down.  He is always telling me that I am not good enough.  He seems to trick me into thinking that I am not doing it right.  Sometimes I can’t figure his mind games out and it really brings me down.  Sometimes we just need help and guidance from others.A lot of the mind games that we do in youth group I wouldn’t have picked up on unless my friends didn’t help me.  They told me things to look for.  Sometimes when satan is playing mind games with me, I just need to turn to a close friend for help and for some encouragement.  What mind games is satan playing on you?  Find someone for help and guidance through it.  I know Jesus is there for us and he also wants us to be there for others.  1 John 4:21 Loving others means lifting them up in times like this.  I am here for anyone who needs it.  I know I also have friends out there that are there for me when I need it.

Wii

nintendo_wii_1.jpgIn October of last year, Hannah and I decided we wanted to get a wii.  Our friends, Matt and Ashley got one earlier last year and we feel in love with it.  It is so fun and it is a work out too.  So we decided we are going to get one.  Of course, everyone else was thinking the same thing because it took us forever to get one.  We had people calling and looking for us while we did the same.  No luck.  Well we finally got one today!  We were at the Walmart in Seneca and we figured we would just stop to see if they had any and they had 4!  They got them of the truck 5 mins. before we got there.  So we talked about it for a little bite and said “Let’s Get it!”  We are so excited about it.  We love to bowl on the wii.  Speaking of bowling that makes me think of something that I have to share with you. Watch this.  This is my grandmother and grandfather’s wii bowling league at their retirement community.  My grandmother is the one in the peach colored shirt who said “I am good.”  My grandfather is the one that is in the light blue shirt.  This cracks me up every time I watch it.  They are so cool.  I love these 2.  Does your grandparents do anything like this?

dirty-series-graphic.jpg

This weekend was great.  I love hanging around Bullpen Student Ministries.  Those teens are really cool to be around.  Kris is always great to hang out with. I love the guy.  Almost everyone there were passionate about following after Christ and making an impact in their schools and homes.

We went through a series that God placed in my heart called “Dirty.”  It was really good, we talked about the dirty deeds that we have done and have had done to us. We also looked at the dirty little secrets that we try to hide from God like sex and lust.  Then on sunday I challenged them to get in the world and reach out.  I think the teens really enjoyed it and God really moved throughout the whole weekend.

I made it back in time for youth group sunday night.  I had to drive 4 hours on 3 hours of sleep from the night before.  It was hard but I wouldn’t have done it any other way.  I really enjoyed speaking there and I am glad that God called me to go do that.  Maybe I will do more of this in the future.
